SUMMARY OF ALL CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAMS
St. Peter's Episcopal Church's children and youth programs provide an opportunity for students in Kindergarten through high school to explore their relationship with their faith through regular meetings and special events. Please find out our multitude of offerings below: For details please click on the category of interest to the left. Christmas Pageant
The first Sunday 10:30 a.m. service of the month is a "celebrate youth" Sunday where we celebrate families, our connections to each other, our community and God's creation through special interactive readings, youth-focused homilies, and music from our Youth Choir. CRE:8 The youth CRE:8 Service is the second Sunday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Join us for this vibrant and enthusiastic service filled with Christian rock music and the very clever delivery of religious wisdom through the eyes of our youth. A meal is always provided for all after the service. Hope to see you there! Godly Play Godly Play is for our youngest children in grades preschool-2. It meets on Sundays at 10:10 a.m. Leaders are Vikki Clayton, Carol Collar, and Gay Butz. "Godly Play assumes that children have some experience of the mystery of the presence of God in their lives, but that they lack the language, permission and understanding to express and enjoy that in our culture." These words by the founder of Godly Play, Jerome W. Berryman, best describe this imaginative approach to teaching children in a way that "supports, challenges, nourishes and guides their spiritual quest." Children's Chapel Children’s chapel is a little different this year. We will focus on bible stories of the Old and New Testaments. There will be discussions, crafts, etc. relating to these stories to better remember them. We also do a shorter version of the Rite II church service. The students will take turns lighting candles, reading the various parts of the service, and submitting their own petitions for the childrens’ Prayers of the People. Finally, the students will join their families in church for communion. Children’s Chapel is open to all 3rd-5th graders, but older children are also welcome. We are looking forward to another enjoyable year in Children’s Chapel. Preschool Story Time This wonderful event offers fun music by Cheryl Clauson and bible stories by Joel Tjornehoj. After, the children participate in simple crafts and a snack. Providing parents with a joyous break during the day, this successful program is a must see. Youth Choir St. Peter's Youth Choir is open to all interested singers ages 7 to 14. The Youth Choir meets weekly (Wednesday 4:15pm) for rehearsals in the church sanctuary for 45 minutes. The choir practices special anthems to sing for our monthly Family Worship service and also learns some of the hymns and service music used during worship. The Youth Choir is directed by Cheryl Clausen, 301.948.7060. Middle School Youth Group Middle school students, grades 6 through 8, meet Sunday mornings (every Sunday except CRE:8 Sunday) from 9:30-10:15 in the Middle School Youth Room on the 1st floor. A new curicculum is being implemented for the 2009-2010 year providing age appropriate discussion of Biblical lessons as it relates to experiences in their life. This group is led by Chris and Sherri Hall. Senior High Youth Group The High School Youth group has a large repertoire of program. On the first and fourth Sundays, they meet in the youth group room at 9:30 for either J2A or a rock music based study. On the third Sunday, teens share lunch with our rector and study the Gospel lesson that will be used in the next month's CRE:8 service, which is held on the second Sunday evening of every month. Meetings are open to all interested youth. This group is led by Kevin and Carol Collar and Traci Stevens. |
